Kindergarten

kindergarten-room.jpgOur Kindergarten curriculum is aligned with the state standards to ensure a smooth transition into the local school districts for first grade and beyond. Expectations and practices are also based off of the skills, knowledge, and interests of each child. Our program is small, which allows our certified teacher to invest time with each child individually. The curriculum integrates the content areas of Language Arts, Mathematics, Science Exploration, Social Studies, the Arts, Computer skills, beginning Spanish and American Sign Language, and Yoga! The program builds a necessary foundation for learning by reinforcing listening skills, the ability to follow and complete sequenced tasks, and working together with peers. Children are engaged daily in both educational and play centers, outdoor play, and many other experiences that support their physical, social, emotional and cognitive development. Kindergarten essentially is the foundation of education, and our program works to instill a love of learning that will last over time.

Some specific things Kindergarteners learn throughout the year:

  • Beginning to read (50 sight words and sounding out unknown words)
  • Writing simple sentences
  • Addition and Subtraction
  • 2-D and 3-D shapes (number of sides and vertices)
  • Time to the hour
  • Money (coin values and adding different coins)
